Butler Tech State Tested Nurse Aid (STNA) Program

Through an innovative partnership with Butler Tech, Mercy McAuley students have the opportunity to participate in Butler Tech's State Tested Nurse Aid (STNA) Program, which prepares them to take the State Tested Nurse Aide exam and be licensed through the Ohio Department of Health. This enables them to be employed by nursing homes as a State Tested Nurse Aide, which is a great stepping stone for students who wish to pursue a nursing degree in college. New in the 2023-24 school year, students will take the semester course onsite at Mercy McAuley, where we have converted a portion of a classroom into a hospital room setting. After completion of the semester course, students will participate in clinicals on two Saturdays before taking the state certification test in December. Mercy McAuley is the only local Catholic high school to bring this Butler Tech course onsite, making this innovative program even more accessible to students.

STNAs provide daily living services to patients in long-term care facilities and through home healthcare. Activities range from changing bedding, bathing and grooming patients, assisting them with feeding, or monitoring vital signs. Students must be at least 16 years old to participate in the program.
