Catherine McAuley Excellence Scholarships

These one-time awards in the amount of $1,000, $500, and $250 are available to incoming freshmen (Class of 2023) who best exemplify ‘Excellence’ in their area of submission. Specific details of submissions are described below. Written or hard copy materials must be submitted to Alli Miazga, Recruitment & Admissions Coordinator, by November 17, 2018. Performance art applicants should advise Alli Miazga of their interest by November 17, 2018; these applicants will be invited to perform at Mercy McAuley in December 2018.

Applicants' submissions will be considered based on merit, and finalists will be invited to meet with the school administration for an interview regarding their submission. Award recipients will be notified by the second week of January 2019. Students may only receive an award in a single area of interest. Award categories include:

Fine Arts – Applicants should be prepared to submit an original work of art, along with a short summary of the inspiration, name, and meaning of the work. Applicants for the award will be asked to come to Mercy McAuley and explain their work, and how their passion may inspire their curricular or ultimately their career choices.

Performance Arts – Applicants will be invited to perform their work at Mercy McAuley during the month of December. Interested applicants should contact Alli Miazga, Recruitment & Admissions Coordinator, to make their interest and medium known. Applicants will be asked to come to Mercy McAuley to explain how their passion may inspire their curricular or ultimately their career choices. Creative Writing – Applicants should submit an original short story or submission (not to exceed four pages in length). Applicants for the award will be asked to come to Mercy McAuley and explain how their passion may inspire their curricular or ultimately their career choices. Math – Applicants should submit a summary paper of their specific area of interest in a field of mathematics, and how that interest may influence: their curricular choices; their future professional interests and choices; and how their field of choice may lead to innovative improvements in quality of life for many. Sciences – Applicants should submit a summary paper of their specific area of interest in a field of science, and how that interest may influence: their curricular choices; their future professional interests and choices; and how the field may lead to innovative improvements in quality of life for many. Social Studies – Applicants should submit a summary written paper (not to exceed 4 pages in length) detailing their specific interest in a sociological or historical area of interest. The submission should summarize the relevance of the interest in current times and how it may shape the curricular and adult life choices of the applicant in the future.
