Music

Mercy McAuley’s music program provides a wide range of opportunities for students interested in vocal and/or instrumental music. From chorus and Vocal Ensemble, to Orchestra/Concert Band, to handbells and piano lab, the opportunities are endless for students with a passion for music. Our concerts are held in our 1,000-seat Performing Arts Center, the ideal venue for students to sing or play an instrument onstage in front of a large audience.

For more information about Mercy McAuley's music programs, please contact Music Director Mary White at whitem@mercymcauley.org or (513) 681-1800.

Vocal Ensemble

Our Vocal Ensemble sings in approximately 20 community performances each year, and at numerous Mercy McAuley school Masses and events throughout the school year. Auditions for Mercy McAuley’s Vocal Ensemble are held in January. Together with the Vocal Ensemble from La Salle High School, our Vocal Ensemble participates in an annual national competition.

Chorus

Students of all experience levels may take our chorus class, which aims to develop students’ music reading, sight-singing ability, vocal production and stage presence. The Chorus performs at various school activities and at the Christmas and Spring concerts, some of which include combined concerts with the choral department at La Salle High School.

Orchestra/Concert Band

Members of the orchestra/concert band perform in the Christmas and Spring Concerts, Graduation, and many other Mercy McAuley events. They also have the option to participate in the spring musical. A “Beginning Orchestra/Concert Band” class is also offered to students who have never played an instrument, or who once played and would like to play again. Individual coaching is provided and is open to students of all grade levels. These students may be placed into the full Orchestra/Concert Band as determined by the Music Director.

Piano Lab

Mercy McAuley’s Piano Lab course provides an opportunity for students of all
levels to play the piano in a lab setting. Beginners learn how to play the piano, to read music and play basic tunes, and experienced piano students learn new music and improve their skills.
