September 11, 2020 Dear Parents,
Where were you on September 11, 2001? Most of us will never forget where we were or what we were doing on that morning or the weeks that followed, as the enormity of the tragedy continued to unfold. The country came together to pray and to be one. It took a tragedy, and many lives were lost, but we became one and prayed. Let's keep the victims and their families in our prayers today as we remember.
When I am out and about, I occasionally see a yard sign that states, "Pray For America." These signs bring a smile to my face because all countries, including ours, need prayers. We need prayers for the pandemic, and for the unrest, violence and injustices in our country. In our prayers, may we ask God to help us recognize, appreciate and celebrate our differences and the gifts that He has given us.
"Prayer is the exercise of drawing on the grace of God."
I continue to be very proud of our students and employees for following our health and safety protocols. We are in ongoing communication with the Cincinnati Health Department and leaders at other area high schools. Mercy McAuley is fortunate that we have not yet had any positive COVID-19 cases within our school. If we do have a positive case, any students or employees who sit within 6 feet of the infected individual will be required to quarantine for 14 days. Please read the article below from our school nurse, Kathleen Johnson; she will include a health article regularly in this newsletter.
Mercy and compassion always in our hearts,
Connie Kampschmidt
Congratulations Kaitlyn Sansone - National Merit Semifinalist! Congratulations to senior Kaitlyn Sansone, who has been named a National Merit Semifinalist! Kaitlyn is among the approximately 16,000 Semifinalists across the country who now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million that will be offered next spring. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of US high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. At Mercy McAuley, Kaitlyn participates in cross country, swimming, track, Certamen, orchestra, and Ambassadors Club. She has also been part of the Women Lead program. Kaitlyn's career goal is to become a physical therapist. She attended Sacred Heart School in Fairfield and is the daughter of Brian and Angie Sansone of Fairfield. We are so proud of Kaitlyn for her tremendous academic achievement!

From the Director of Ministry Mrs. Christine Minix, Director of Ministry, would like to keep parents informed of faith-related activities and lessons taking place. During September and October, students will learn about the Rosary and will participate in Rosary activities in Den. Also during these months, classes will participate in living rosaries. Adoration will take place throughout the year in Theology classes in the Chapel.
Health Reminders from the School Nurse Governor DeWine issued the following order last week: "Beginning Tuesday, September 8, parents or guardians and school staff should notify their school within 24 hours of receiving a positive test or a clinical diagnosis. Within 24 hours after receiving that notification, the school should notify other parents and guardians about that case in writing, providing as much information as possible without releasing protected health information. The school must also notify their local health department within 24 hours."
If your daughter receives a positive COVID-19 test or clinical diagnosis, please notify our school nurse, Kathleen Johnson, within 24 hours of receiving this result or diagnosis. Kathleen can be reached at 681-1800 x1126. Kathleen will then notify the Cincinnati Health Department.

Parents of Athletes: Yearbook Needs Your Help! Since we can't have as many students and staff cheering on our athletes this year, our yearbook staff could use your help! If you are at a game or meet, and you take some amazing photos, please consider sharing them with the Mercy McAuley yearbook staff. There are two ways you can get the photos to us:
1. Use the shared One Drive. First, you will need to go to the App store and download the One Drive App. It resembles a blue cloud. After the App is downloaded, come back to this email and click on the link below:
If you click the link above from your phone, the app will open automatically. If you are viewing this email on a computer, you will need to then go back to your phone and open the One Drive app. At the bottom to the right of the camera button, you will see "Shared" with two little people icons. Tap that, and the Fall Sports Photos 20-21 should be visible. Click on the Sport and then your team. At the top you will see a +. Click that to upload photos.
2. The second option is to email the photos to Natalie Fischer, Mercy McAuley's yearbook moderator, at FischerN@mercymcauley.org.
Your help and support are appreciated!
