September 10, 2021 Dear Parents,
Beginning Monday, September 13, all students, employees and visitors at Mercy McAuley will be required to wear masks. This week, we have had four students or staff members test positive for COVID-19. There are currently less than 20 students or staff members quarantined; however, we believe that proactively requiring masks now may help us avoid larger numbers of students and employees being placed in quarantine in the near future. We have made this proactive decision to help keep our students and employees healthy AND to help keep us in school in-person. We know that students do best in school when they are attending classes in person. We will have extra masks in the main office on Monday for any students who forget to bring one from home. We will continue to evaluate the situation to determine if and when we may be able to remove the mask requirement. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we continue to navigate the ever changing nature of the pandemic.
As I stated in my email to you this past Wednesday, we will report the number of positive cases at Mercy McAuley each Friday in this newsletter. Those who are required to quarantine will be notified immediately.
As a reminder, the Ohio Department of Health's Guidelines for Quarantine After Exposure in K-12 Classroom Settings are found HERE. If you have any questions about the quarantine guidelines, or if your daughter tests positive for COVID-19, please contact our school nurse, Kathleen Bartish, at bartishk@mercymcauley.org or (513) 681-1800 x1126.
As we remember the 20th anniversary of the tragic events that occurred on September 11, 2001, may we continue to ask God for healing, peace, and hope for all.
Mercy and compassion always in our hearts,
Connie Kampschmidt Principal

Senior Parking Spot Painting Concludes on Sunday
One of the senior privileges this year allows Class of 2022 members to paint a design on their assigned parking spot in the school lot. All designs must be approved by school administration prior to painting. We have been communicating all of the details and requirements to the seniors over the past couple weeks. Students may only paint designs that have been approved; they are not permitted to change their design during the painting process. This Sunday, Sept. 12, from 1 - 5 p.m., is the last day/time that seniors may come to pain their spots. Faculty and staff members will be onsite to supervise. Parents are welcome to come and help their daughters paint! We look forward to seeing our parking spaces come to life with bright colors, positive messages, and creativity!

Mercy McAuley Juniors Working to Start Library for Local Elementary School We are so proud of juniors Ava Surendorff and Jiya Patel, who have partnered with the Blue Manatee Literacy Project to start a library for LEAP Academy, a world language magnet school located in North Fairmont that specializes in Spanish instruction for students in grades K-6. When Ava and Jiya learned that LEAP Academy was in need of a library composed of 1,500 to 2,000 books, they wanted to help. They contacted the Blue Manatee Literacy Project (BMLP), a local organization that provides books for the youth in our community. BMLP curated a list of books to meet the needs of LEAP Academy. The list includes a diverse array of authors, fiction/nonfiction works, and reading types. Ava's and Jiya's goal is to raise at least $16,000 to build a library suitable for LEAP Academy's size. To help with their fundraising efforts, Ava and Jiya engaged the student body at Mercy McAuley by spearheading a school-wide fundraising challenge. Their efforts even caught the attention of Local 12 News and WVXU radio! If you are interested in helping to stock the shelves of the Leap Academy library or in making a monetary donation, please click the "Donate" button below.
Recognizing National Suicide Prevention Week We thank all our students, faculty and staff who spearheaded many efforts this week to raise awareness for suicide prevention as part of National Suicide Prevention Week. Today, many students and employees wore yellow to help raise awareness. Throughout the week, students also participated in a clothespin activity, where they wrote inspirational and supportive messages on clothespins and then "pinned" them on students' backpacks. A reflective activity also took place during Den.
